Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott says the CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at clarifying crypto market regulation in the US, could come up for a vote before lawmakers leave for August recess.
Scott Signals Confidence in Timing
In an interview with Fox Business on August 6, Scott said there was “no doubt” the bill would get a vote this week. He said he plans to stay in the Senate for at least the next two days to push the process forward, and noted Republicans are unified behind the measure while also expecting support from Democrats. Scott added the Senate may extend its working hours if needed to get the legislation across the line.
What the Bill Aims to Do
The CLARITY Act is designed to define clear regulatory roles for the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission when it comes to overseeing digital assets. Scott said the bill would protect consumers while also encouraging innovation within the US crypto industry.
He also pointed to President Donald Trump’s acceptance of an ethics provision as a notable and unprecedented step forward for the legislation. Despite the momentum, the bill still faces disagreements in Congress over consumer protection standards, regulatory authority, and market risk.
